What is EMDR?
EMDR is an evidenced based therapy that uses eye movement or other repeated bilateral (left-to-right) stimulation into treatment for both big and small traumas or life events. These events effect us in a way in which we develop thoughts about ourselves and the world that cause us to suffer.
When you have experienced something that felt life threatening such as a car accident, physical violence, sexual abuse, or even witnessed a scary event, our brains and bodies store these moments in a way that anything that is similar may feel like you are re-experiencing the events all over again. You may feel a flight, fight or freeze response, feel jumpy and anxious, have nightmares, and avoid places that remind you of the events. Targeting the traumatic experience with bilateral stimulation changes the way the body and brain react. You will remember the event but it will not bring with it anxiety, fear, and body sensations.
EMDR is proven to work much more quickly than talk therapy. Ready to tackle these big or small traumas? Call or email today for a free consultation.
